Living in one of the most liberal cities in the country, I feel safer than in more than half of the most conservative cities.

Still not going to lock my backdoor at night.

population density, median income... etc

Of course the richest cities are going to be:
1. Conservative (make our taxes lower!)
2. Low Crime

One could draw a correlation between the two sets of cities, where the most violent ones are also the ones with the most entitlement recipients and the least violent ones and have the least recipients.

Perhaps removing entitlements could make them so busy having to earn a living they won't have the time or the energy to commit violent crimes, idle hands are the devils play ground and all that.

Really? A correlation between POVERTY and crime? You don't say. I'm sure there's a Nobel Prize awaiting.

Looking at the statistics, it comes down to preference.
Do you prefer being raped or murdered?
If you like rape, go conservative.
Murder, go liberal.
Do you want to be robbed at gun point or do you want to be beat up and then have all your stuff stolen while you are in the hospital.
Robbed at gun point, go liberal
Having everything assaulted raped or stolen from...go conservative.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that politics and crime rate are more complex than OP says

This is an amusing comparison, but more complex than it would seem. Like people said above, there's welfare recipients, for one, which unfortunately can be another reason for the disparity, also, the primary reason murder is lower is because killing someone who tries to harm you isn't considered murder. So the death still happens in the "conservative" cities, it's just the deaths of burglars, etc, instead of the common people.

All the cities except Cambridge, San Francisco, and Berkeley on the "liberal" list have longstanding economic problems. Consequently their numbers are more in line with the "conservative" list. The liberalness or conservativeness of a given city is basically inconsequential in the face of larger economic drivers. In short this is a pointless article.

Welfare recipients are liberal, and both are more likely to be criminals.

If I were a professional criminal I would definitely move to a liberal city.

Lubbock, which is the largest city in the most conservative congressional district, has a higher crime rate than that. It also has a stupidly high crime rate for a city of less than 250,000. Depending on the year it has the highest crime rate in Texas. Its also been in the top 10 nationwide several times.

I guess its because its very poor area overall.

The biggest flaw in the article in OPs post, is the size differences between the liberal and conservative cities is HUGE. Its a well known that cities with higher populations(urban centers/giant cities) typically have a higher crime rates than smaller cities.

Pretty much this. Picking votes from a single election seems a terrible way to qualify the "conservativity" or "liberalness" of a city. I was born in Allentown, PA, lived in the area for 30 years. I've also spent a year living in Hialeah, Florida. I would call neither of these places "conservative cities." Not even close.

Facts never seem to mean anything to liberals.

Of course criminals know they are safer in these mindless bastions of anti-gun mentality and anti-gun laws. A home owner screaming "I've called 911" only tells the criminal that they have at least 10 minutes before they need to think about leaving.

The criminal knows they are much more likely to meet with an armed homeowner that will call 911 only after they have shot the BG.

So you can determine that:

  • When people mass together in expensive large cities they become poor
  • Poor people tend to have high rates of violence
  • Poor people tend to vote for the big pro government party, the hand that feeds them.

What is the population and density? Average income, employment, etc. You have to do better then an apples and oranges comparison.

So you are saying democrats have less income and employment opportunities, so they fester in high population cesspools from all the welfare babies? :awe:

Maybe its because the high taxes and greedy unions make all the productive large companies leave.

Nah probably not that. I doubt its correlated at all (sarcasm).

Yes, the fact that my city is safer than the majority of the most conservative cities in the country. I think we've had two murders in my city in the last year, one by a former cop. Yes, I feel safe living in the city.

And as others have posted the correlation between the two is pretty stupid. I have posted crime stats of my city in the past to show that it had below average rates of crime yet still had the highest percentage of subsidized housing if any city.

It probably helps that in conservative cities they reclassify violent crimes as "stand your ground" if the victim is a minority.

Just needs more time, it'll happen. Detroit was pretty good until they complained the auto industry to death.

You're only looking to confirm your own bias, so you're going to see what you want to see.

It's crime rate, not murder rate. Any violent assault including rape, mutilation and torture.

In "stand your ground" the victim is the person violently attacked, not the scumbag that got shot down while the victim was protecting herself.
