In comparison, my Inspiron laptop is 13"x11"x2". Probably about 4 or 5 pounds.

Not a bad deal either -

P4 2.2 gig
40 gig HD
256 RAM
32x32x32 CDRW-DVD combo
XP Pro
Office XP
Acrobat 5.0

Paid $800 for it. Considering the size of the thing, and the software that was provided it's a bargain.
 
the old SFF desktops were a bitch to order parts for. i really hated seeing one of those when i pulled up someone's service tag

Nope. I take care of ~30 restaurants with very little office space. These little guys save valuable desk space.
 
with the LCD option its almost like those funky old compaq all-in-one machines.

Don't want to rain on the parade, but I don't get the point of SFF systems. It's a desktop as limited as a laptop in power/upgradeability and it's stuck to the desk like a desktop. I think if I'm buying a desktop it's better be a real desktop, standard and upgradeable. But that's just my opinion. Of course, it looks kinda cool and professional. People who have such PCs aren't usually assocoated with 'PC DIYs'.

Personally, I think they're kind of an unhappy medium between the new IBM workstations that are pretty much just the monitor and a full blown desktop. They're kind of clunky really because they're not small enough to fit EVERYWHERE, you still have to run cables, and they're kinda easy to break.

These are for businesses. They come with 3 year warranties. We don't upgrade. We replace. These are small, quiet, and don't generate a lot of heat.
 
Not to mention easier on the land fill
I plan on getting all my next years's PCs that size I didn't know they were such nice little boxes this year I hate chucking away all the overhead built into regular desktops.
Like you said around here at work it fills the bill 90% of the time.
I'll be limiting how many 'regular' boxes I get from now on.
