Real pitchers can throw a ball with velocity and movement, and also know that if the ball hits the ground before it gets to the hitter, then you suck as a man.

I believe only Americans keeps stats of injuries and talk about such stuff. Maybe the reason is that America sports are mostly about brute force whereas the others are more about technique, and is right techniques are applied, injuries are minimal, and then the players just man up.
 
at this point the two matches of interest are ENG vs BAN and PAK vs IRE.

rest of the teams are almost assured of a QF spot.
 
Another day another blowout by India, its getting boring.

Although on the flip side, given the history, if they go into playoffs undefeated, there's a good chance they will fall in the first round... a defeat is necessary...

They are really on a role! Virat seems rock solid.

Shikhar Dhawan played a great knock against the Irish with his century.

Indian bowling sans Shami sucks ass as usual. Ashwin is okay I guess but the others - especially fast-bowling is almost non-existent.

Also, I think India have won so much because that idiot Ishant Sharma is not in the squad - THANK THE GODS! 😀
 
Big battle tomorrow night (10:30 PM CDT) South Africa vs Sri Lanka, de villiers vs sangakkara, both vying for the top spot. I believe whoever bats first will win, both teams are strong, and again, chasing a big total under the light will be very difficult.

Sad, that one of them, de villiers or sangakkara will gone after the game, both were fun to watch!
 
😀 Pakistan beating Australia in Australia... I doubt that could happen, but I am all for another India-Pakistan, will cheer for Pak in the the quarters! :thumbsup:
 
LOL Sri Lanka, I have seen teams choke before but this was over the top, must be a world record in choking. Damn, it was a knockout game and they were batting first... wow, it's unbelievable.

Aus vs. Ind in the Semi's!

I just have a bad feeling! 😀

If they can score > 300, Ind will have a good chance.

Anything less and it's Aus all the way.

Starc is unstoppable! Of course, the Kiwis are also amazing! Boult and Milne are probably the top bowlers of the tournament with their 95mph yorkers! 😛

Haha yea.. I felt bad for Sangakarra - a great cricketer.

South Africa bowled really well.

The Semis are going to be intense! :thumbsup:
 
Agreed - SL (esp Sangakarra) choked. Windies let NZ slip with dropped catches.

And India has a prayer only if they cross 300. Hopefully 350. But very possible they are restricted to 250, and then it would be good drama if a couple of early wickets fall for the Aussies.

But tomorrow's match SA vs NZ should be a cracker. Big hitters and great bowlers on both sides, but not much depth in batting (ie, susceptible to pressure) either.
 
I just moved to Antigua, West Indies so I went from zero exposure to be inundated with cricket. It's a shit sport. I don't have to heart to tell the locals, but my god it's terrible. I like soccer, american football, rugby (and league nines) but forget this cricket non-sense.

Though, I may go to the English/Windies match for the atmosphere.

I'd like to know what - objectively - do you find bad with it?

I went to a baseball game once (Marlins vs somebody), and sat thru a couple of hours of play, where nothing happened - no runs were scored by either side, and the innings kept turning over, and that's it. I was dead bored. I was told it was an especially bad game from both sides, but I can't imagine going to (or watching on TV) another baseball game. I mean, I understand and appreciate great soccer matches that end scoreless for either side. But baseball seems to revel in rules that make for boring games.

So, back to cricket - I can empathize if you don't like the 5 day game. I love watching that, but it's not for everyone. But with the "one-day" game (which takes around 7/8 hours to complete) or the Twenty-20 game (that takes around 2/3 hours to complete it's not a matter of length of time. So what's it?

yeah, mauka mauka are hilarious 😀 did they some out with something for IND vs AUS?

In the IND vs AUS semis the toss with decide the match imho, If India wins the toss they still have chance, if they loose and have to bat second, then the game will be over, they might as well forfeit and go home and rest 😀 There is no why they can stand up to the Australian bowling in the second innings. If AUS plays first, they are sure to score 350+ and India can never chase that. IF India plays first, maybe they can get close to 300 and then might be able to put AUS under pressure, get a few quick wickets...

That same argument could be made for soccer where both teams can go scoreless for an entire game, yet soccer is still a superior sport. It is simple - no hands, two goals, one ball. It is a fluid sport. This is the main argument against football I hear from people. Too much stoppage of play, and I'll give them that.

But with cricket? It wreaks of a game developed when people were so bloody bored they needed to make it terribly complex and last a long time, to give them something to do. It's like a game that regrettably lasted longer than it should have. As you well know, it is pretty much only ex-British colonies or related countries that still play the game on a serious level. There is a good reason for that.

The fact that the game has had other versions developed in order to reduce the game duration to something reasonable is a testament to how ridiculously long it was in the first place. The game can't be explained so easily. It's like 3x more complicated than baseball. Instead of just trying to get the ball past, there is the wicket to contend with as well. Runs are just one at a time? Wrong, you can get 4 or 6 as well. I mean, what the hell?

This speaks volumes: "Cricket never caught on in Canada, despite efforts by an imperial-minded elite to promote the game as a way of identifying with the British Empire. Canada, unlike Australia and the West Indies, witnessed a continual decline in the popularity of the game during 1860–1960. Linked to upper class British-Canadian elites, the game never became popular with the general public. In the summer season it had to compete with baseball. During the First World War, Canadian units stationed in Britain played baseball, not cricket."

Of course it didn't catch on.

Twenty20 is a sham IMO - it's for the current generation that is impatient about everything. Merely slugging it out makes the game cheap and boring. It's the "pizza effect" on cricket.

It's of course a huge revenue generator and that's why it's popular but come on! ODIs allow batsmen to get into the groove and play some great calculated strokes - not trying to break the goddamn ball like they do in Twenty20!

The previous generation of the Indian team w/ Sachin, Dravid, Ganguly, Laxman, et. al was a real treat. Now, they are all like drunk college kids ready to fight at the drop of a...ball! 😀

Having said that, I still ordered the IPL series on ESPN! 😛
