Cricket Wireless vs FreedomPOP and Google Voice? Plus need a referral

Doing final due diligence before switching over to Cricket Wireless. The current $100 credit for porting and FAR Moto E seem to make a very low risk proposition. The other possiblility was combining a very low cost carrier like FreedomPOP with porting my existing number to Google Voice, for those who have done something like this can you let me know how it went?
