I don't think it's quite "mimicking" ... I think there is software on the computer that translates what the webcam sees into motion code, and the system sends that motion code to the different controls on the "android." I don't think the robot is doing any true interpretations based on visual cues, in fact, I think it's a very dumb robot with good prosthetic parts, and all it is doing is following input commands.

And interestingly, I doubt the hardware is using motion-capture code any more complicated than what is available for game consoles - the difference is that the code is not being sent to a virtual character, but rather a series of real actuators and motors and whatnot.
