Creed Fans Sue for Refund

Mistake 1 -> being a Creed fan

Music critics have always held bands accountable for bad performances, but now fans are getting in on the act. Four Creed fans are suing the band, saying they were cheated out of a real concert when they attended a Chicago-area performance in December.

In a suit filed Monday in Cook County Circuit Court, the four concertgoers ? Philip and Linda Berenz and Wendy and Chad Costino ? claim that lead singer Scott Stapp was so "intoxicated and/or medicated that he was unable to sing the lyrics of a single Creed song" during a December 29 concert at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois. "Instead ... Stapp left the stage on several occasions during songs for long periods of time, rolled around on the floor of the stage in apparent pain or distress and appeared to pass out while onstage during the performance."

The suit alleges that the rocker's condition was the result of a drinking or drug binge known to the other members of Creed as well as management and concert promoters, who are also named in the suit.

Collectively, the concertgoers are seeking to recoup $227, or $56.75 each, the amount they spent on tickets, service charges and parking fees. They're also asking the judge to certify the suit as a class action, so other fans at the show can get refunds. If all of the 15,000 who attended were to join the suit, the total could be in excess of $2 million.

Creed have already apologized to concertgoers for any disappointment but offered no refund. "We apologize if you don't feel that the show was up to the very high standards set by our previous shows in Chicago," an e-mail to fans read. "We also understand and appreciate the fact that there has been much concern about Scott's health. ... [He] is taking a much needed break at home in Orlando. ... For now, we hope that you can take some solace in the fact that you definitely experienced the most unique of all Creed shows."

Creed's spokesperson did not respond to calls for comment by press time.

I can now say that Creed sucks. They are not the band they used to be. Goodbye to the music world for you Creed.

What was holding you back?

Any chance the Bob Dylan and Janis Joplin fans can do the same? You cant understand any of their lyrics either.

They are not a Christian band. Many people claim this, but the band has made it very clear that they are not a Christian band. They even say on their website that they are not a Christian band.

Yes, some of the members may be religious, but religion is not a theme of the band.

Heh.. I forwarded that link to my ex, who's a big Creed fan. I believe they had potential (there's some good stuff hiding on their first album), but once they hit the big time their creative juices started drying up.

Hmmmm. I've never had a problem understanding the lyrics to Dylan's or Joplin's songs. I do think, however that they both suck(ed) as singers.

Well, I get tired of these ridiculous lawsuits..It's really pathetic actually. But, I think this one is well deserved. The concertgoers who are filing the lawsuit aren't asking for some absurd amount of money but just the cost for the concert...a refund. I hope it turns into a class action suit so that everyone who feels they wasted their money on this particular concert will in turn get a refund.

Oh and I saw their concert in August and thoroughly enjoyed it.

peace

all I can say is I hope they get their money. Lame stuff like that shouldn't happen and it just shows a lack of respect for their audience members.

I can say that I liked the material from My Own Prison and Human Clay. It was "With Arms Wide Open" that killed them and brought them into pop. It was sad to see them go to such levels as writing music people wanted to hear and not what they wanted to hear.

"With Arms Wide Open" is from Human Clay. Either you liked Human Clay or you didn't since "WAWO" was on it. Any successful band will make a transition from garage band with a raw sound to a "processed band". You can't name one band that hasn't changed their sound from their first album to their current album. Does that make them sell outs? Does that make them pop? No it doesn't - it's a transition of style.

Except their lead singer thinks hes the second coming of Christ...

...Guess now the Romans are taking notice and are begining to ready his cross.

They just say that in an attempt to avoid the stigma of being called a "Christian band". The lyrics of many of their songs are very religious.

I thought Human Clay was a good album but clearly fame has taken its toll on them. Time to slip out of the limelight like every other fad-band.

Don't you have a server to maintain? Perhaps I could crash one for ya? 😉 I was never an extremly big fan of theirs until I got to go to their concert in January '02 - they were pretty damn good.

i feel sorry for the fans in chicago. both creed concerts in houston were great live experiences for me. i'm not a big fan of the band, but both shows i've been to have been good.

and mani, no manny of their songs aren't very religious. there are a few with religious themes, but those come out to 3 or 4 of the 30 or so songs they have.
