Credit Union cheated me out of $20 with a deposited check...

I've been going to the same credit union for the past 10 years. Never had a problem... it's pretty much auto pilot for when I go there (almost always at the drive-thru).

Well today, I deposited two checks: one for $456.25 and one for $10.00. I got my deposit slip as usual, stuck it in my center console and drove off. Well, I get back home today and glanced at the deposit slip before I tossed it in the paper shredder and saw that the teller (someone new that I've only seen there a few times) entered the checks as $436.25 and $10.00. She jipped me out of $20.

I should have caught it right away if I had looked at the deposit slip, but I was complacent and didn't double check having been going there for so long.

Do they keep a copy of the checks that you deposit at the bank or do they send them off? I going to go down there tomorrow, but how should I approach them? Should I just say, "You guys screwed up, where's my money?" :D

Or maybe they'll just say "Fvck it, you're a long time member, we'll credit you $20"

**Edit**

Damn, guess I should have checked my online statement before posting :D They already corrected it.

CU's are known for their good service, just stop by and explain it to them nicely, you will have your money.

also, not sure about your state, but ours, every single check will be scanned into your home banking site, so you can pull up your online statement and click on the check image.

They'll probably have them if you go tomorrow morning, you should just write this all down on a note and slip it to the teller.

I didn't toss it in. I still have it. I was going to put it in, but looked one last time and caught the error.

What did they say when you called them? I didn't realize anyone here worked for your credit union and was capable of providing a definitive answer.

<-- bank teller

.....when the tellers send their work off to the proof department, they review all the paperwork and compare it to the computer numbers to make sure everything balances. In this case, the work wouldn't have balanced and they would've said NFS4 needs a credit of $20 to his account....bingo.

On an all check deposit it really doesn't matter what the teller enters and gives you a receipt for, it is how it is processed in the proof department that counts. It would not affect the tellers balancing at all unless cash was involved and then only if the cash total was misentered.

depends on the CU.

if his CU is a good sized one, they would be using branch capture. the check image would've been scanned into the system already and the character recog. software would've reported the correct amount, which ultimately effects the bottom line for that batch of checks. Which means someone at the end of the day would've eye-balled that particular check and reprocessed it into the system. to allow for the human total to balance out with the computer's end of day total.

it's all good
