That 120GB Kingston HyperX 3K drive for $59 is a steal! Even comes with the 3.5" bracket. Thanks, ordered 1.....even though i don't need it. :)

I wonder how many they have. At that price it may go OOS fairly early today.

I already have an 830 on its way, but I'm probably going to jump on this.

In for 2 even though I don't need either. Keep trying. The site is getting hammered.

'Haven't seen the HTTP service msg for past hour -- did earlier -- but maybe I'm just lucky for once.

Anyway, I'm temporarily SSD'd out.

On the other hand, I've a limping mouse, so the Logitech Cordless Performance Mouse MX for $50 seems a solid, non-refurb' deal.

Had I not picked up a refurb'd k800 two weeks ago, the Logitech Wireless Illuminated Keyboard K800 -- my favorite KB -- at $65 (new) would hold interest.

Finally, if I can get over my 2TB+ concerns, the Seagate ST3000DM001 at $120 looks good. (Every affordable [<<$200] HD 2TBB in size or greater seems to have a host of DOA/early-failure complaints; then there's the >2TB size issue to deal with, but since this would be a backup drive that's not a blocking issue.)

Re' the Kingston HyperX 3K 120 GB SSD "increasing in price": looks like Amazon, itself, ran out of stock and transferred the link to its marketplace partners who set their own prices. Not impossible they will restock today, but not likely either.

Glad I grabbed one of the 120GB HyperXs earlier, looks like it sold out. Already had 2 of them before from prior sales with big MIRs, so this was the best deal yet with no rebate and low price.

These HyperX 3Ks are great drives, have one on my machine on one on the gf's machine. I'll probably toss this in my machine for a RAID 0 game swap array and hold off on buying more SSDs until we start seeing the larger capacity drives at this price point (~$0.25/GB). Once larger capacities start getting cheaper, these 120GB drives will make excellent laptop or HTPC drives.

It'll fit into almost any laptop except some ultrabooks or laptops that require a 7mm thick drive.
"Fit", yes. But there have been several drive interfaces over the years and I'd recommend a purchaser at least

  • Verify interface compatibility (either Google for owner-reviews by folks who've installed it in your model, or find "how to upgrade your drive" instructions specifically for it).
  • Verify you have the necessary tools and experience for the task:
    • Either the o/s + user-s/w installation disks, or
    • A drive cloning environment (+ expertise)
  • Understand the implications of the installation:
    • Will the SSD have adequate stand-alone capacity, or
    • Does your laptop have a second drive bay for a HD
    • There are o/s mod's appropriate after a HD->SSD swap.

Et cetera.... Off-hand, I'd say a person who asks "will it fit" hasn't ripened to an adequate knowledge-base for the task. And a person who asks a Q without providing necessary details for an informed answer is further challenged. Time for them to find a SO, buddy or lackie who can hold their hand while they learn. Ignorance isn't necessarily bliss, but it can be transitory.
