Credit Score question

Kur

Senior member
I was at 706 when I hit 18 i checked it when I got my first credit card and I checked it today and see it at 658, what causes this kind of a drop?

I have a capital one card and just got a Washing Mutual card not too long ago. And ideas? Never been late on any payments.

I don't know much about credit scores and all that, thanks.

How old are you? Possible factors affecting your score:
1. Your credit accounts have been open for less than five years.
2. Two or more hard pulls on your credit history in the last year.
3. You use up a big percentage of your available credit.

Was the first score a Trans Union score? They tend to be 10-30 points higher than the other two.

Also like the other poster said, that 706 wasn't a real credit score considering you probably didn't have any credit history at that point.

What's the limit on the card? If you have a high utilization rate it will hurt your score even if the amount is low.

Debt to available revolving credit ratio.
Installment debt accounts (mortgage, car, etc.) and payment history.
Minimum monthly payment vs. larger monthly payment.
Short credit history.
Etc.
