i pulled my free annual credit report from annualcreditreport.com recently, and i noticed that there was a item that had been sent to collections in march 07. i did not know anything about it, so i called the hospital and asked them. they said the debt was paid in jun 07 and i had to talk to the collection agency. i called the collection agency and they show it as being paid as well. the problem is the credit report shows last activity was on march of 07 and they don't show anything about it being paid. This was a $300 debt from in college when i went to the doctor that i thought my insurance covered but was not, and it must have gotten lost in the shuffle of moving dorms and all that.

who do i need to get in contact with to get it straightened out? it is up to the collection agency to report things to the credit bureaus? or is it up to me to get in contact with the 3 credit bureaus to get it straightened out. Thank you for you help. i am a noob when it comes to this stuff.

id start with the collection agency, maybe ask for a proof of payment and see if you can talk to someone there who can resubmit the info? if not youll have the proof of payment and can send copies with letters to all the credit bureaus. send it registered mail or something so you can legally prove they got it on the off chance they say they didnt.

I am in the same exact boat. I have sorted it out yet though. I got a physical my first year at the university, and since I was not a student athlete yet the university did not cover what my insurance didn't... it was only $75 and it has been on my credit report for like 5 years now.
I was told to contact the collection agency... so they just send me a bill ...lol WTF. I guess I have to pay it again or something.

Get a letter from them saying that they acknowledge the debt is paid. You can then update the line with the bureaus.

Or just dispute it.
