Credit ot Debit?

Why do they bother asking if it's a check card. I dont mind pushing in my pin nor do I mind signing, but why ask I wonder.

Some dude at staples had the nerve to say to me, "for $5 you're using your credit card?"

Yeah, I don't see why they ask either. It works the same way no matter which method, so I just sign usually because it's easer. That's considered "credit," right?

They get charged a percentage of the transaction amount if it's processed as a credit card, so they are trying to get you to use it as a debit card.

They are charged a % either way, but if you use it as a debit card the % is much lower.

yea i know, but why ask? If they know this and want to save then just run it as a credit card and not ask me. It doesnt hurt me because the cash is debit instantly.

That's actually not true.......most transaction clearing houses/banks charge the merchant a flat fee per transaction for taking a debit card while there is a percentage fee associated with taking a credit card. Our shop always preferred taking a debit card over a credit card.....the fee was less and the money was in our shop's account the next day unlike credit cards which can take their sweet time to get credited to your account.

Then your store is the exception. I know plenty of stores that prefer people use debit and not credit.

When I use my paypal debit to buy things, I only get 1.5% cashback if they process it as credit, and zilch if they process it as debit. Even though to me its the exact same thing. So they damn well better make it credit!
