Alright....here's the deal.
About 1-2 years ago when she was dating this guy he filled out a joint credit card in both of their names. She never wanted this card & refused to sign for it...so he forged her signature.
She never knew about this until now (2 years later) when she just recieved a notice that her school loan was denied for bad credit. This girl should have perfect credit (well as 'perfect' as you could have with never having a credit card), although when she called the loan company they said that she had a $14,000 credit card bill that was outstanding....remember she has no credit cards.

Anyways, what can she do? The old b/f obviously isn't going to help. She doesn't even know what credit card company she supposedly has a card with? She never even signed up with the card in the first place!?!?!

Jesus christ. Get her a credit report from equifax.com or somewhere like that immediately and then call them.

So she refused to sign and he forged her signature?

[*]Go down to the local police station
[*]Dish out all the information possible on this guy, the loan company, history of things, etc etc ...
[*]Get him arrested on MAJOR fraud charges and other fun bits

This isn't a light charge. This guy needs to get put away. $14 000 is a ridiculous amount for an unpaid bill; she needs to get this sorted out so that she can get her credit rating back. Unfortunately this asshat may have destroyed it for good. :(

1) She needs to order a copy of her credit report, I recommend ordering it directly from the credit bureau EquiFax.
2) She should be able to view her credit report online instantly, if she cannot then she will be snail mailed a copy.
3) Dispute ALL incorrect information showing on her credit report. This credit card account she supposedly has should appear on her credit report, she should find the credit card company name, then call the credit card company and give them the account number showing on her credit report, along with her name and social security number. Then she should request a copy of the credit card application which has her forged signature. Everything she does with the credit bureaus should be in WRITING (not phone call, not e-mail, not fax) but in WRITING via USPS certified mail.

This will not be fixed overnight but if she is thorough and pervasive enough, she can get the situation rectified.

He's right - she should file this with the police. It will be easy enough to prove the signature was forged. What a scumbag that BF was.

She needs to get credit reports from 3 different agencies:

Experian: 800-583-4080 experian

Equifax: 800-291-7773 Equifax

Transunion: 800-680-7289 Transunion

She needs to initiate a police report with her local agency as soon as possible.
Document everything possible thats related to this.
Be prepared to spend alot of time for a long time on this, depending on how severe the case is.

I have all this info here as I write this, as I have been working on my own case for over 3 years.... Let me tell you its more frustrating than anything I have ever experienced, although my case is extremely bad. My situation covers 4 states, with my drivers license having been suspended in three states, over $16,000 in fraudulent loans and checks, and 84 felonies commited in my name.

Good luck!

She needs a lawyer. Sorry, but no amount of ATOT advice will replace the services of a qualified lawyer.
