My girlfriend's mother had an account with T-Mobile. She had two phones on their family time plan. One phone was stolen and my gf's mother put it on suspension. She continued to pay the $69.99 a month for both lines even though one line was suspended. Eventually T-Mobile cancelled both lines due to the fact that she did not get another phone EVEN though she was paying $69.99 a month for one line.
She was eventually sent to a collections agency. She received a letter from one collection agency telling her to pay up. So she pays the $200.00 in check to the first collections company. Now she receives another collections agency statement saying that she owes them the money. So my girlfriend calls this company up. My GF explains the situation and that her mother had already sent a check to the first collection agency. The second collection agency basically tells her they don't give a sh1t and that she better pay the $200.00 or else.
Now this seems wrong to me. So in essence she sent $200.00 to the first agency and then another $200.00 to this second agency.
What can she do now? She tried to stop payment on the check but it was too late, they had already cashed the check. Can she contact someone in regards to this for fraud? Is this common practice with collection agencies?
I do work for a company that is an indirect dealer for T-Mobile and I have contacted my rep for this matter. I just shot off an e-mail to her right now so I won't get a response until probably tomorrow or early Monday. Thanks in advance.
