I just interviewed for a position and they are going to be running a credit check.
What will they be looking for?

Thanks!

if you have lots of debt and late payments you are a more of a risk to steal, it also shows you are irresponsible

they are just going to run a normal credit check with the major bureaus

Depends were you work. I know in the state I live you cant have bad credit and be state inspectore for cars Its against the law. Its bacily if you pay everything off on time and have no outsandinf debt you should be fine.

They're just looking to see if you're responsible. They don't care about your exact credit score, just that you don't have delinquent accounts, charged-off balances, car repos, etc. You can have debt.

We've had a few people not get job offers over the years for bad credit. Maybe 5% of the people we've wanted to hire.

They are becoming more and more common. They aren't looking for your overall score, like Kranky said. They are looking to see if you have anything really negative that would indicate you are irresponsible. It's a perfectly legit thing for them to do, IMO.

Because those with charge offs, liens, repos, bankruptcies, etc. tend to break more stuff, take things that don't belong to them.

Same goes with insurance. It's all about the risque.

it's really a background check, rather than a credit score check
