Why do people always seem so suprised when i ask for their ID.....then they don't have one so they whine and complain.....it's not like it's a suprise that it's there.......

How many of you have this on your CC? Do people actually check it?

In the 4 years I have had my main CC, I have been asked once for ID. It has said "See ID" since the day I received it.

I have mine set to Check ID.
If they don't check it i will sign it differently(especially if i had really bad service), then i will dispute the charge.

And part of the contract that companies must sign to accept a credit card says that they must verify that the actual card holder or a verified user is using the card. So in essence they are breaking the terms of the contract, and thus can be penalized for it.

You can do that? Does it actually work?

Can the company fight it? I mean, it's them losing money...

I've seen companies not accept a credit card unless it is signed. most credit cards say "Not valid unless signed" on the back.

Sure give it a try. Just don't come crying to us when busted for credit card fraud.

I don't have a CC, but it just seems weird that you could dispute something that you did actually buy just because of poor service, or another such reason. They have you right there on camera.

Even if it says check ID and they provide a valid(and matching) State issued ID?

Yep. writing Check ID on the card isn't signing it.

It's true. You can just say that you never made the purchase. What are they going to do? They will check the sig and notice that the name is different from your name and conclude that you did not make the purchase. It's the resposibility of the company to verify that the cardholder is actually the person making the purchase. The Walmart by us started really cracking down on checking ID's when they had over $20,000 in bad CC sales in one week. It's not ethical, but you can get away with it although I think the CC company would start to get suspicious if you did this like 10 times.

Even with my card signed they always ask for my ID. And my signature on my ID and on my CC is a little bit off so they often examine it and examine it. It's not like I could have someone with the same exact name's ID or something, DJH!

Whenever my mom wanted me to get something for her she would give me her credit card and I've never once had a problem
I would sign for it in my name too

Most of my cards are unsigned or have Check ID written on them. I only get asked for my ID at the Mall. As if I haev one of parent's credit cards. If I did I would not be going to American Eagle to get shorts.

"Please Check ID" isn't a valid signature, and stores SHOULDN'T (yes, I know that most do anyway) even accept them. Mine are signed.

LOL right. Even if you did get away with it, you would lose your creditcard each time you did it... and i would think they would realize sooner or later you were scamming them.

why though? i mean for the obvious reason "not valid unelss signed" but it offers a BIT more protection to the person

Someone sends you a pre-approved card in the mail. You take it out of the envelope, and without signing it (and therefore agreeing to the terms and conditions of the card - for example: "I agree to pay back the credit company for any money they lend me") you take it to the store and buy stuff. You're buying goods with a card that's not a valid credit card. You have made no promise to actually pay for anything purchased with that card.

All my cards have my picture and signature on the front.

Eliminates the need for me to pull multiple cards out of my wallet unless I'm buying beer.

What pissed me off was when the retard at Ikea kept insisting for my ID when I gave him my picture card. Idiot. :|

Crap like that ends up costing everyone. If you are not pleased with the service, bring it up to the clerk, talk to the manager, or ask for a customer service number. Your method accomplishes nothing, in my opinion. You walk away without paying for something and the store gets the shaft. I'd be interested in you logic for doing this.

Most of my cards are signed, but they say check ID, too. They are really strict on this in my area - they ask for an ID regardless of a signature or not. I think indentity theft is rampant here.

So the credit card came printed with "please check ID" or you people wrote it on yourselves instead of signing?

If the latter.....freaks :D
