Credit card theft charges

Someone got a hold of my capital one credit card and started making purchases from Allegiant Airlines. They were between 400 and 500 each so I'm assuming it was airline tickets but why the hell would you buy airline tickets with a stolen card? Wouldn't it be better to buy something that you get immediately? What are the chances you buy an airline ticket on a stolen card and actually get to take the flight?

What difference does that make? A thief will always be a thief. They will do and take anything of "value" or "no value". Don't assume what a thief will do. They will do whatever it takes to get what they want.

Really beer and cigarettes? That is a crime just like buying an airplane ticket. What a stupid answer but okay.

a stupid answer?? not harfly....at least with beer and cigarettes they could drink the beer and smoke the cigarettes.....with an airline ticket it can easily be cancelled.... I would have settled for a few nice looking Asian masseuses

You know when my apartment was broken into there was one peculiar thing the thief stole. I scratched my head and wondered why a thief would steal my handheld mustache trimmer. I pondered and surmised that you can assume what a thief will steal or do. Whatever they do it is a crime no matter how stupid or whether you understand what they have done. One of my friends said she thought someone was trying to jimmy her sliding back door. Then she said I don't have anything worth stealing. <--- Tell that to a thief! See what they think. What you think they will take may surprise you no matter how cheap or expensive it is. Plane tickets, beer, frozen meats and jars full of pennies - they will take it all!

I did some more reading about this and I think the scam happens this way. Person A acquires stolen credit card info. Person A books a flight on stolen credit card, and then cancels the flight. Airline offers person A a future flight credit or voucher. Person A then sells the flight credit on eBay or Craigslist to someone else who has no idea the credit has been fraudulently obtained.

Yep I assumed that this was probably the case. Adds a layer of complexity and likely the amount of time it takes the CC issuer to contact the airline and work through it, the voucher has already been sold. Ultimately the person who buys the voucher probably gets screwed.

All why I wouldn't touch that sort of stuff on ebay with a 10ft pole. Credit scams and/or money laundering most likely.

A restaurant waiter stole my credit card number and purchased flowers and candy for his girlfriend and himself. I called the flower and candy shop which at first did not want to give me the info of where it was sent, but finally did, as it was MY credit card with MY name on it. I then had the name and address of the thief. I turned it over to the credit card company believing I did all the leg work for them. I called them back a month later only to find out that because it was less than their minimum price, they just wrote it off. Still deciding whether I should confront this guy or not. Perhaps I should send him flowers and candy with a note of "I know who you are."

I understood what he said. This person also didn't say when he discovered those charges. So - In reality. The thief could have taken the flight if that is what he purchased with the card. His post is very generic and short. As you can see. I have been to airport and used my debit card to pay a luggage fee. They did not check who the card belonged to ad long as they got paid for it.

You got the advantage, i would be having a fucking field day with this shit. Oh, i got some cray ass shit to scare the fuck out of those people i would do. Most if it is leaving various items at their front steps or door. Wouldn't have to talk to them, or even confront them. I wouldn't hurt the folks, but scaring the shit out of them with me would be PERFECT. I would hope they stocked up on toilet paper.

I would do it prob under the disguise of a plague doctor costume, to up the fun and also to conceal myself in case they had cameras. I would do one trip, but make it worth while. I wouldn't mention the card or nothing, leaving the entire event as a mystery would be perfection.

I would let plenty of time pass, so they got very comfortable too. Doing it so soon after the event is gonna make me look that obvious. You should have some fun with it dude.

Even if you show your ID during the purchase, it is not recorded. Beer and cigs are not associated with transactions that are tied to your identity. Airline tickets definitely are.
And the camera in the store? And the cameras outside facing the gas pumps? He said a stolen credit card. Could the thief take the card and go to other establishments and use it? Could he return to the same store buy more chips, soda and gas, today, tomorrow or the next day and use the card again or until you notice your card is missing? Is the camera a valuable tool then?
