Credit Card Fraud

Keep an eye on your credit card statements.

I got over $100.00 of charges from these two companies on my last statement.

Evidently they take payment for adult websites and somehow got my card number.

It's a nightmare to get these charges taken off. (I've already cancelled this card)

...was even told if these were charges for monthly subscription type services that the Credit Card company will continue to make payments!

Customer service told me that i had to call each company and dispute the charges!

I said you want me to call a scammer and dispute charges with them!?

I did call the contact numbers that the CC company gave me.

One of them just rang off the hook, and the other one i called some guy answered the
phone and asked me for my Credit Card #!!!! Like i'm gona give some stranger over
the phone my credit card number... (grrrrrr) So i called the CC company back and they
removed the charges PENDING wether or not the merchant could prove i was responsible
for the charges.

Seems the CC companies are just protecting the merchants and screwing over the customers
...surprise, surprise!

You'd be surprised if you saw things from the marchant perspective... trust me, CC companies side with customers 95% of the time, right or wrong.

They rarely side with the companies, they almost always side with the customers. But, you do need to follow the process. Often that may require the dispute be in writing. A letter or a phone call is a small price to pay.

Yes. Fraud detection is mainly handled by computers. My bank froze my card based on questionable activity a few months ago, just because I made some unusual purchases that were outside of my "profile". A big variable is what type of card you have. If it's a VISA card, for instance, and you can't get satisfaction from your bank or whoever gave you the CC, then call VISA.

Meanwhile, check out http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/credit/cards.htm
Quote:
" If you lose your credit or charge cards or if you realize they've been lost or stolen, immediately call the issuer(s). Many companies have toll-free numbers and 24-hour service to deal with such emergencies. By law, once you report the loss or theft, you have no further responsibility for unauthorized charges. In any event, your maximum liability under federal law is $50 per card. If you suspect fraud, you may be asked to sign a statement under oath that you did not make the purchase(s) in question."

If you're not comfortable with how the card company handles this, then know that there are many other providers who'd love your business. Perhaps now is a good time to investigate one of them. Just, if you don't want pre-approved offers coming to you, make sure to opt out after you get your new card.

I had the same thing happen to me in May/June. Some company called "EUPaycom.com" charged $30.00 exactly both months on my credit card. Got the card canceled and a new one sent to me.

people claiming cc fraud -- do you guys have kids? look within your own home first, good chance you might find the culprit right under your roof.

... wouldn't be the first time it's happened. When i was a kid- i used to pull crap like that myself, buying games and toys online or ordering movies over the cablebox with my dad's credit card.

also, it's very common for someone to go through your trash or snag a copy of your bill and get the digits, exp date and all, for your credit cards. and for something like an adult paysite, whom most people wouldn't want going on their own bills or being too easily traced to their own homes, i'll bet it occurs far higher than usual.
