I just got in a car wreck and budget has changed. This is the first time i'm going to have to make payments instead of paying it all off at once. My APR is very high. I'm looking for a credit card that has 0% on balance transfers for like 6 months or so. I remember i used to get them in the mail a while back.

Please post them here or PM me if ya know any. I really appreciate this.

I'm pretty sure Discover has one right now. I think I also got one in the mail from Citi for a card with 0% on balance xfers.

Citibank

  • Save with a 0% APR on balance transfers (for up to 12 months) with no balance transfer fee
  • No annual fee
  • yada, yada, yada
Our only personal card is a Citibank, and I have nothing but good things to say about them.

Discover Card always has them. Call up and ask them for their balance transfer rates. It will be either 0%(highly unlikely), 1.9%, 5.9%, or 9.9%. I have seen a few that were higher but that is really rare. Tell them you got a better rate with so and so. They have the power to drop your rate 2.0% just by hassling. Make sure you pay no fees either. Dont let them sucker you into that. If it is lower than 5.9% no amount of hassling will get a lower rate. Hope this helps.

Discover. No fees, low interest, and pretty much anyone can get one. Plus the random # generator is pretty cool.

Another vote for CitiBank, recently I applied for a CitiBank MasterCard which has 0% APR until November 2003 that's 15 months of FREE MONEY!

If you're wondering which CitiBank credit card to apply for, I'd get the CitiBank Dividend Platinum Select MasterCard which has no annual fee, introductory 0% APR (if you qualify), 1% cash rebate on all purchases with no weird tier pricing like the other cash rebate cc's do.

i dont know what is considered GOOD credit. I believe i have between 500 and 620 points. I know that because i applied for used car dealer license and they rewuire you to have this bond insurance whatever you call it :frown: Anyhow, the company that required 620 denied me and the next company that required a 500 or 520 apporved me. So i'm in that range. Is that good? or decent?

I dont want to apply unless i'm going to get it for sure because the lady told me that the more cards i apply for a t a time the worse it looks on my history report. So far i haven't applie for any cards yet.

Citi card looks very appealing. i'm going to look into it more. Thank you VERY VERY muich.

I wish more people thought like this. In my opinion there are 3 different levels of credit cards that people qualify for:
1) The Scum, they require a $59 application fee, $29 processing fee, $19 expedition fee, and charge 14-40% APR.
2) The Normal people's cc CitiBank, First USA, MBNA, Chase, Amex, etc. this is what most people have including myself.
3) Bling Bling, the Elite exclusive Amex cc, super high limit cc's, no limit cc's, etc.

A credit score of 620 or higher is good for a credit card.

Just to be safe if you want to know your credit score and look at your credit report, I would strongly suggest ordering Score Power from EquiFax (which is a credit bureau) it will show you your credit report online AND reveal your credit score to you, it does cost $12.95 but it's better than continually applying for different cc's, being declined and lowering your credit score even more because you've been applying for a cc everywhere.

0% APR doesn't mean 0% interest, it means 0% above the prime rate.

... pardon?

I called CitiBank just now and they said it's 0% APR which is 0% interest until November 2003. So 0% + 0% = 0% according to them at least.

0% APR means exactly 0% interest.

The term "APR" (annual percentage rate) has a specific meaning by law.

Excuse me for butting in but..

Isn't there also a "nominal APR" that's technically and mathematically different from the APR? I think I'm digging up drudge from reading something a while back.. :(

is 620 a good fico score?

looking at my experian score, it says ~340 - 600 is High Risk, and ~600 - 660 is considered Medium-High Risk.

And, they offered me 7.9% fixed thereafter. YMMV

Can't say I was really interested with the GM card giving 5% on a GM purchase(they took $3000 off my last car from 2 1/2yrs of purchases)

I'm a total CitiBank whore since they were my first cc back in 93-94 while I was attending college.

The GM card seems appealing but I'd rather use CitiBank's Drivers Edge Platinum Select cc which gives 1% rebate (used to be 2%) towards ANY new car, no annual fee and 0% APR on balance transfers for 12 months!

To answer your previous question 620 is kind of average but this is not good. You want at least 680 or higher.

If it really is 340, well damn what did you do boy?
