Well long story short I order some beadlocks(custom wheels for offroading) and the vendor made some really ****** rims. Based on his past attitude I don't think I'm going to get any thing but grief from him in trying to return them so I plan to dispute it with Citibank. I talked to them about if they would(they said I'd need to return the product and would eat that cost) and they'd dispute the original charge. My question is, do they place the money value on hold on your account or how does that work? Also, are they typically pretty slow or how fast do they move along?

Not sure in your case, but normally, they'd credit your account right away, but its not permanent and they tell you so. Then, you gotta sign this form stating what/why you're disputing and send it to them (forgot if fax works, been a while) and then they say they'll contact you after their investigation is complete.

Then, a few weeks to months later, they'll email/call you and tell you whats up.

*from experience with Citibank Platinum Rewards.

Since you received the product, I think it's more of a manufacturer's warranty issue.

So CitiBank will most likely decline your request but it's worth a shot. I could be wrong.

I like Amex's Purchase Protection Plan:
Shop with confidence with the Purchase Protection Plan, which protects eligible purchases made with the Card against accidental damage and theft for up to 90 days from the date of purchase.

In my case the vendor is the manufacturer if that makes it any different.

Well, it depends. This could go under receiving a defective product. It would void the contract made between buyer/seller and so the CC company would take the money back.

EDIT: Not void it because of defective... Can't find right wording, but you know what I mean. Bad product, vendor won't correct situation, CC company becomes hero. I think it happens a lot.

It's those commercials that give everyone false hope. There's one on the radio with a woman talking about how she ordered custom cabinet that was the wrong shade of black & American Express got here money back... I filed a dispute once with a company over buying unlicensed copies of Windows XP. I tried to e-mail and call them multiple times, but seriously, their worker intelligence level is even below the average ATOTer... Anyways, when American Express begins the investigation, they give the company one month to respond with their side of the story. In my situation, they never responded to AmEx so I automatically won and was creditted the full amount!

Anyways, if the decision does not come back in your favor, if you have anything additional to add to the dispute, you can reopen the dispute again. And while the charge is in dispute you are not responsible for paying for it, nor paying any interest that would have accumulated even if you lose.
