I noticed on my latest credit card bill that they had started charging me for their INSANE service they call "Credit Protector".. Which basically means for $20-30 a month (with the balance I had) they would "protect" me in case I would lose my job or become unable to work or something along those lines.
When I called them, they told me I had enrolled for this service in April of 2001! WHAT?! I did not.. I _NEVER_ would use that service and I told them I wanted to be credit for the past 10+ months (Around $250).. I was told they would forward it to the investigative group...
A couple weeks pass, and I get a letter in the mail today... They say they investigated and have found that I verbally authorized the service to be added to my account in April of 2001.. either that or someone authorized to make changes on my account did. Umm.. NO.. I did NOT authorize it, and nobody else is authorized to use my account.. At the end of the letter it says basically that they can't refund the money, and thanks for being a customer.
Well, thats not an acceptable answer to me. Short of producing a signed document by me saying I want to enroll, I think they should have to refund me the charges.. Period. I did not authorize them verbally or otherwise. I suspect this "service" is outsourced to a 3rd party company and thats why they are so set on there is no possible way to refund this money.
They can't produce a date and time when I talked to them, or a document, and yet I'm somehow response for $250 worth of charges because one of their CSR's probably lied and signed me up and order to get a commission? Has anyone else gone through this and what did you have to do to get your money refunded? I am almost considering getting an attorney to write up a threat for me because this really angers me. There is no possible way I would have authorized this.. and I am willing to spend the $250 on fees to a lawyer to get a refund of $250.. 🙂
Well, I know what some of you will say.. Why didn't you check your bill? Well, thats partly my fault.. I should have been checking it. But I really only use this credit card for balance transfers, so I have a large amount transfered onto it.. and I don't have any other charges on it.. so I just look at the amount due and pay it.. my fault kind of.. But their "credit protector" option is a tiny little line on the bill, I hardly would have noticed it even if I was closely looking it over..
Anyways, if anyone has any helpful hints I would appreciate it.. This scam needs to stop... They are always pushing that BS service when you call them..
