Credit Card/Collections question

My credit history is excellent...was able to buy a car last summer at 1.9% financing and didn't need a co-signer.

Anyway, Netflix has charged my account monthly until I finally cancelled my subscription a few months ago. I let my parents use this card, so the bill goes to them. Well, my mother called me last night saying that the bill has been sent to collections. I called the collections company, and they said that there was a Netflix charge back in January. So with all the late fees and interest, the bill went up to about $60 from the $12 Netflix charge.

They said the only way to resolve this is to have Netflix clear the charges, and to write the credit services notifying them about the dispute.

How damaging is this to my credit?
What if Netflix refuses to do a chargeback (they conveniently left out a phone number so I must communicate via e-mail)?

Sucks because I worked so hard to re-build my credit after college messed me up.

Dispute the charge with Netflix. Dispute the collections with the Credit Collection agencies. Once it is cleared, your credit will be ok. Oh, and if your the collection company starts calling your mom, have her tell them that it is in dispute and not to call her anymore. They're not supposed to after that.

Christ, are you really this helpless? No wonder you let a credit card bill go to collections.

Thanks for your kind reply. I would have taken care of this if I received the bills. Everything was paid off prior to that. Of course I would have paid off the $12 if I had known. I can see your misunderstanding though.

If you want to have the paper bill sent to your mom's address but the card is still in your name, I'd suggest getting a credit card that lets you pay/view statements online. Citibank Dividend Platinum Select card is great for cash back and all the online features you could want from a credit card.
