Credit Agencies

so I was shopping about a year ago and signed up for their in store credit cards to get a 15% off purchases made that day using the card. I made the purchase using my temporary card and felt good that I saved some money. To make a long story short, I never recieved my actual store credit card or the statement from the store on my purchases made thru the temporary card. Getting nervous about potential late fees\finance charges etc. I wrote out a check for the original amount i purchased using the card through the store and sent it out. the check has since been cashed. a few days ago, I started receiving letters from a credit agency demanding i repay money from this so called delinquent account that i never used since that first day i opened it. the amount of $$ they want is even less than the original amount i purchased on that first day and paid for. I have never even received the card so it would've been impossible for me to have used it after that fist day. I called the agencies and the original creditor and I keep getting the run around. they say its taken care of but somehow I don't think it is. Can someone with experience on this issue walk me through what i need to do to protect my credit score? I'm afraid their gonna keep coming after me after I spent all afternoon trying to explain to them to no avail. the funny thing is the guy who signed the letters that was sent to me has since left the company. something just smells fishy about the whole thing. any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm not reading all of that. Dispute the debt. Instructions are on the letter from the collection agency.

You are not alone. I've never missed a single bill date or ever paid late, but I'm still dealing with a collection from 2001. I never received notice of the debt, and I paid in full as soon as I heard about it(bad mistake as the debt wasn't valid). Just today Equifax updated their information to reflect that the debt was paid(took them 3 years), but then they re-aged the account to today's date(illegal under the FCRA). Someone will be here shortly to call you a POS and say it is all YOUR fault for not keeping up with something, but they will change their mind when a debt comes out of nowhere that they didn't know was theirs. It typically works like this... you have some type of credit-based relationship with a company and you close the account. Well, they might just charge you a fee for that, or find some "new" charge to bill you. They love not sending bills, and then waiting for a CA to come after you.

thanx a lot for the links, I'll look in to it and see what I can do about it. I've already disputed the debt and i'm waiting to see what they do next.

Toekramp: just wait till u get wrongfully billed for a purchase u never made and then I wanna see you call yourself a POS for doing nothing worng and getting charged for it.

lol I think he's being facetious.

Question - when you never received a permanent card after x days, why did you not call and report it as stolen or at least not received?
