i heard from a user using the Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer (or the fatality edition of it) saying that when he overclocked his core 2 due or ram or anything, the sounds would pop or crack in game. He had to use default speeds of everything for the Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer to work properly. is this actually true? WTF???? WTH??? i was about to order this right NOW before i came across his thread.

i doubt any game will ever use x-ram in the future. x-fi is dead technology, vista killed it.

the only real advantage it has is for games that take advantage of it, like battlefield 2. and only if you're playing on windows XP.

Not true at all, just for directsound3d its dead. The X-Fi is still the the only card in town for hardware accelerated OpenAL games. Even then using alchemy software for X-Fi makes it good for older directsound3d games.

I will sell you my Xtrememusic card for $20 if you pay shipping to. Nothing wrong with it, im just tired of the whole "switching" mode X-fi cards use for gaming and music mode so using onboard sound

Just to clarify, EAX is still hardware accelerated if its a openAL game, its not however in game that use own sound engine or old directsound3d games. Hope that clears it up.

Switching mode? I never ever did that because there was no point to change it. There is NO DIFFERENCE. The only thing it allowed you to do was set entertainment mode to different settings and it saved them separate from your game settings.

No, it's not. I have the x-fi extremegamer, and the difference between it and AC-97 is marginal. The reality is it's a $20 sound card, not worth a penny more.

Actually there is a difference. You are turning off gaming modes, eax, etc when not in gaming mode vs entertainment. This is the main reason games won't let you choose high quality EAX when gaming mode is not enabled when you enter the game, esp Bf2.

It goes both ways, you disabling features for each mode you use for each task. It's done this way in increase performance instead of having all modes enabled and soundcard/cpu trying to do complicated tasks that don't need to be done.
