Creative X-Fi Xtreme Audio

probably not, especially since the xtreme audio is the crippled version of the xtreme music and doesnt even support EAX 😕

ok, that would be worse than my audigy 2

Yeah, you'd notice how much it sucked in games and connectivity.

Rather than a crippled Muzak or Gamer, it's more like a tarted up Audigy SE (and a string of other CA0106 variants over the years). Apparently they juggled the "value add" software formula and included host-based CMSS-3D Headphone rather than same of EAX.

For shame.

Anything wrong with your A2 you have?

Got good headphones / speakers to warrant getting one of the other X-Fi cards?

That's classic. The BS marketing and dubious effects like "Crystalizer" only obfuscate the real advantages of their schtuff.

Thought I'd interject and ask a question. I've got a pair of HD 555 headphones and using RealTek onboard sound on my SLI 32 Deluxe mobo. Would I be doing myself a favour in getting a X-Fi or Audigy 2 card or something?

It helps if you play lots of games as the X-Fi has great headphone 3D simulation. And there's always something better than Creative in sound cards.

Is there a particular card you could recommend for my pair of HD 555 headphones that is hopefully reasonably priced and will give me some high quality sound? 🙂

Meh. Use to rave about the X-fi, but it really isn't that good. Crystalizer distorts audio, as does CMSS3D, all the other extra 'features' aren't that special. I'm also noticing more snap, crackle and pop now in games using EAX. Heard that's the sound equivalent of a frame rate slide show, which is very annoying. It's still better than onboard, but now I get why people are pissed Creative has a 'monopoly' on the sound card market. If you got an Audigy 2, there's really no point to an X-fi (X-ram was a gimmick).
