Creative X-FI drivers = cpu hog

I have 1.5 gb ram, and it was okay until i installed the creative sound card with its drivers. I have noticed my computer being a little more sluggish + sometimes gets stuck then resumes.

edit: from time to time, it actually says not enough memory. 1st time in my life.

I have my X-Fi running with dated P4 board and 512MB RAM and not running out of memory. I'd check the list of processes in the task manager and disable what you do not need.

I see all the CTXFISPI.EXE, CTXFIHLP.EXE, CTHELPER.EXE, etc... I read up on some of these to see if i can delete it, and it's suppose to keep it functioning properly, Is that true?

Are you using the latest x-fi drivers? How did you come to the conclusion that it is the x-fi drivers causing the high memory usage?

How? because i was googling around, and i found other users to have this problem too. Also, this started happening ever since i installed the new sound card.

I've used the X-FI on a variety of systems ranging from 512mb to 2gb. I have never encountered a memory issue related with the drivers or the processes it's running. Like Nocturnal, I suspect something else is going with your system and how Windows is managing the virtual memory. I'd play around with the settings or uninstall the card to confirm if the problem persists.

Well, I have already changed the virtual memory. I haven't gotten the lock ups and the error sign about not enough memory. I'll see if any problems come out...

The only process i have that is for my x-fi is "volpnlu.exe" and its currently using about 9.5MB - i just got it recently

Sounds more like a software/driver conflict than the drivers themselves. I installed the basic stuff (console, drivers), it it takes about 10Mb of memory; Avguard takes about as much, and I only have 1Gb of Ram. Did you clean uninstall old sound drivers, and disable onboard?

that' weird i don't use any PAGEFILE at all, and it never complains about out of memory.

are you sure it's not a Trojan or SPAM ware in your PC ?
