Creative X-Fi Cards Announced

Lol

Looks like there are two cards, the Elite Pro with 116db SNR analog outs and the regular version with 109db SNR.

Better stick with the one at $130 than hurt yourself for $400 for a minor upgrade.

There are better ways to spend $400...you are probably better off doing bitperfect SPDIF passthrough into a digital receiver with just the $130 version of the card.

And if you want bitperfect SPDIF, you can do it with the Chaintech AV-710 for $25

For $130 I can buy the Logitech Z-5300's (which I have).
For $400 I can buy the Logitech Z-5500's or the Klipsch Promedia 5.1 Ultra.

Any one of those purchases would make a MUCH bigger difference in my listening experience than a new sound card.

bitperfect SPDIF? Which digital receiver would you get and it would it make much difference with headphones. Also does the Chaintech card take as much load off of the processor as the Soundblaster cards?

Does the cheapy model ("Xtreme Music") also support EAX 5, or is that just the "Fatality super leet titanium edition supreme" card?

...And I just bought an Audigy 2 ZS 🙁

Chaintech doesn't do any hardware EAX processing, so that wouldn't help you in games... but if you're using these cards in digital mode, you're only going to get stereo out anyway, so I don't know what kind of performance impact differences there are.

Info on setting up the via envy cards

For the receiver... you can spend as much as you want on one... go to headfi for more info.

Despite my sound system, I'm not really into music all that much, so I don't know the impact of bitperfect SPDIF and don't know if it's something you can notice.

Not into music much?! Lies, I can't believe it. 🙂

I have music going for 3 to 5 hours a day, but it's off to the side unfortunately due to my setup and it's just casual listening. I listen to mp3s on these 🙁
My friends and I never really went to any concerts or were into music at all... I ended up kind of introducing myself to music in the middle of highschool via napster.
So, 5 or 6 years later and my music collection is totally random and I'm still not really into it so much. I sure have noticed even my sh!tty mp3s sounding a lot nicer on these speakers (and of course noticing a lot of flaws and the lower quality ones are slowly getting replaced).

I can definately see myself getting into music with these, but they're serving their intended movie usage purpose excellently 😀

Computer sounds system
HSU Ventriloquist VT-12 (6 Speakers) on Sanus stands
Harman Kardon AVR 330 Receiver
Canare Speaker Cables
SVS PB10-ISD Subwoofer

I got a great deal on it all, which is pretty much the only reason I have it. My friend who works at circut city got me the HSU;s and the Harman Kardon for $400 shipped together :Q.Im extremely pleased with the SVS and it will definatley be sticking around for a while until I feel the need to upgrade, which wont be very soon in my 10' x 10' room.🙂

18hz solid with room gain baby 😀

I wasn't expecting you to say the Ventriloquist set. I've only seen it with HSU subs before 🙂

I used to have an HK AVR325

Amazing little speakers, they put out huge, clear, sound for their size, and fit nicely on my desk and above\below my monitor

Nice rig.

I notice you don't list your speakers though. I hope the sound card isn't overkill for whatever speakers you have.
