creative web cam live! pro driver install issue

did an upgrade install of windows XP due to MB swap. Installed chipset drivers, printer and such are working fine, but the web cam isn't. I downloaded the drivers from creative, when you install them it hits a point where it asks for the device to be plugged in. Doing this doesn't finish the install, it add's the device as an unknown and does nothing else. I've tried rebooting, different usb ports and nothing seems to get it to see it so the drivers can be installed. the drivers are some self installer so I can't track down the files it extracts.

anyone have experince with creative web cams? thanks
