A heatsink of that size far exceeds the physical specifications for PCI-Express. With glue, either the card breaks or the chip is torn off.

If I'm looking at the picture correctly, that setup also uses a stack of hard drives to support the weight of the heatsink.

Yeah the glue is just to secure the heatsink to the chip, it doesnt support the weight. Ive seen the Corsair water coolers supported by just the card, as long as it has a bracket like the Asus cards. The main advantage for something like this is noise.
