all i have to say is GRRRRRRRR!!!!

Bought a sound blaster audigy se to replace my live gamer. ya ya, audio barly needs to be upgraded ever...in my opinion. Slapped in the card, installed drivers. It reboots my system....

tried in 3 other systems. two amd one intel. Same thing. after install had to format to get the problem to go away.

Newegg sent me another one. same issue. Contacted creative, they said it was something on my end. Talked to a manager got send another. Same issue.

a few items to note:
the system freezes for a few seconds then restarts.
tried on an intel, dfi, and abit MB
tried w/o overclocks
increase pci latency from 32 to 64
tried drivers on cd and on website.

this issue only happens when sound is played. meaning my system doesnt restart at
night when its not doing anything. But if i play any sound, mp3, dvd, avi, or in an game. After a few minutes...ya another reboot.

any ideas?

could be a driver issue...
Did you get rid of any old audio drivers that were on your computer??

yes, on the three systems i broke out my trusty 20gb, installed the card and did a format (using the 20gb). Windows xp only takes 20sih minutes to install.

Thats odd, I too have a Sound Blaster Audigy SE, and it installed perfectly fine. Worked as soon as I installed the drivers, I first disabled my onboard audio and uninstalled any remaining sound drivers.
Try disabling onboard sound, or try placing the card in different slots. :)

Is an Audigy SE really an upgrade from a Live? At least the latter sports the EMU10K1 DSP while the former a simple CA016-DAT controller. Exchange it for an Audigy 2 Value (EMU10K2), is my advice before even tackling problems.... but it seems like a driver conflict... perhaps with something common amongst the three systems. Otherwise, why would it be solved with a new OS setup? Did all have their previous audio uninstalled and integrated device disabled from CMOS Setup? Were the latest drivers for the SE installed rather than whatever was included?

i've always thought the SE version as really a lower grade than an even a Audigy Value card. i could be wrong though, still sounds better than my "other" sound cards i've owned.

well i have no idea how to find a conflict. none in device manager. and on all 3 systems...seems unlikey.

my install process was. install windows. install drivers. video, mb, sound. run 3dmark06 and wow.

all 3 systems frooze. all 3 systems use pci based sound cards. so the builtin audio has been disabled for months.

@auric
i have no idea what you ment to say. i dont research soundcards. i just exspected something so minute to work.
