I always buy the "budget" package when I go "Creative Labs." I have the Audigy 2ZS PCI card in an older computer, and an X-Fi Fatal1ty "extreme-gamer" card in my latest c2Q build.

Both I and my enthusiast-friend have piles of surplus parts and assorted cyber-junk. I was visiting a week ago, and he offered me (for free) several sticks of PC800 Rambus memory which I really need to extend the life of some older computers in the "fam-dam-ily." He also gave me the 5.25" front-panel I/O extension to the Audigy 2ZS. He had bought the "Platinum" edition with this part, and I had purchased only the sound-board.

Today, I dropped by his house again to pick up the ribbon cable that connects to the Audigy 2ZS. I've been looking at the User Manual for the X-Fi "Extreme-Gamer" (which I also have), and wonder if the Audigy 2ZS front-panel will connect to the X-Fi.

Creative seems to have reversed the configuration of pinouts on the X-Fi from those on the Audigy 2ZS, although the cable seems to fit the X-Fi's front-panel the same way.

If anyone has insight about this, or can offer advice, that's good. I'd rather have a front-panel connected to my X-Fi card. I don't want to BUY the front-panel for the X-Fi, but would certainly use this freebie if I can. Of course, if there are no other options -- I can use it with the Audigy 2ZS.
