I just purchased the WD 1200JB 120 GB hd 2/ 8mb cache. I installed it and did a clean installation of XP with it. everything works fine but my sound card. my sound card has always given me issues with XP but it worked so i never bothered replacing it. It is a SB live 5.1. After I did my clean installation. my sound card just went haywire. It would work for about 5 minutes after I start up and then the sound just starts crackling and lagging down my whole system. I installed all the latest drivers for it and it still does that. I am seriously considering replacing it with Turtle Beach Santa Cruz which has excellent reviews. But i dun wanna spend the 80 bucks if i dun have to. Am I missing something here? Wats wrong?

Question 1: is your chipset a Via chipset, especially a 686A/B southbridge? That could be the issue.

BTW, who says you need to pay $80? You can get the TBSC for $6 (six bucks, not a typo) this week. Search Hot Deals. :)

I indeed have a VIA chipset. . not sure about the south bridge . . .maybe a VT6202. Its the KT300 north bridge. Thanx for the heads up on the TBSC. :)
