Nomad Muvo 4GB at Frys for 99.99 after 40 MIR. Sounds like a good deal to me, it has good and bad customer reviews at Amazon, but most are good.

Is the drive in this reliable? Looking to get a decent mp3 player for the wifey but I don't want it to "crash" if it gets dropped or die in 1 or 2 years.

It's uses a Hitachi 1" micro drive, about as good as it gets.

I bought one this morning to replace my old flash based player (1.25GB).

I've heard a lot about these players having a headphone jack issue. However, $100 for a 4GB microdrive is great if you're looking for digital camera storage.

I've been using it for 1 yr on the subways in NYC, do yourself a favor and throw away the crap buds that come with it and at the very least get some of the sony earbuds...the ones that end in ...71, I forget the rest. I tried about 5 pairs before I found ones that met a really good cost/benefit/fit/sound ratio.

For $100 you can't beat it. Replaceable battery, huge battery life (after a year I still get 16+ hours per charge) great sound.

This is a great little MP3 player. I have had mine since last summer and I've taken it on numerous flights and vacations without a glitch. Battery life is still good and I don't mind the headphones at all. At $100 after rebate it's a good deal IMHO.

Be careful, these come with the CF that cannot be used in cameras.

yeah, later revisions of the player had a cf card that wouldn't work in cameras.
i'm guessing these are it.

Yes, the new ones don't work in digital cameras nor to be used as storage devices other than what it was intended. I have one of these earlier models for about a year now and it was too nice to extract the microdrive. It would break if you dropped it since it has a microdrive and not a flash CF card. The estimated battery life would be 10-12 hours. No headphone jack issues so far. I have heard this was a problem with the Rio Carbon 5GB models.

In addition, these later models do not come with the beltclip case. The wired remote has an FM tuner and voice recorder. It's a $50 accessory which is quite flimsy from the reviews I had read.

I would recommend the Creative Muvo 2 4GB MP3 player. Anyone got a link?

Sweet, thanks for the deal. Picked up the last one at Sunnyvale Fry's last night. I don't see why the suggested retail on this ($199) is more than that of the 4GB Zen Micro ($179) but for $100 it's def a nice player and I'm not complaining! Other than having an annoying interface (takes too long to browse music and can't seem to play individual songs, only folders/playlists) and tiny LCD/buttons it's quite good.

To play individual songs, you have to, and I'm going on memory here, hit the big button, then hit the small button a couple of times, then it starts your off at "root" (wait for it), then you should be able to play your songs a though z.

It's the same price on outpost, but of course there's shipping. Still a good price.

Yeah, I had those, loved them until a wire broke inside and the left channel died; I hear it's happened to lots of people and the warranty on them is crap.

BTW it's MDR-EX71SL, there is also a white version for ipod lovers or, in my case, a silver zen micro. The EX51 probably has the same exact speakers but for $10 more you get a decent little case and the earbud part has some hard plastic: which I like better; just on the outside, the part that goes in your ear is the soft, exchangeable rubber tip. In summary, get the 71s not the 51s, also they've come out with an 81 series, basically pure marketing though.

"suggested retail" price has no bearing on reality :) generally only valid on day 1 of product launch..and in this case long ago. it certainly couldn't compete with ipod mini 4gb at 199 lol:)

99 is the only acceptable price.

Creative's players rock. I just got a Zen Micro for father's day, and had a Nomad Jukebox before. Sound quality on both is(was) excellent both. Everyone at work liked my Zen so much they're all getting one now :)

Is the menu navigation on this similar to the Zen line (doubt it since its such a small screen) or more like a Muvo NX/TX? I have a Zen and i like being able to make Playlist on the fly which you cant do on the Muvo TX or on another player such as Rio Carbon/Karma... so i guess my question really is can you make playlists on the fly...

Screen looks alot like the Muvo Tx's...
