Creative Labs Sound Blaster Cards

The problem exists if you hook up a 5.1-channel speaker system to a PC that only has a 2-channel sound card and expect it to work in 5.1 channel!

If you have a 7.1-channel sound card, there should be no problem with using it as 5.1 or even 2.1.

If that is the case, I would rather purchase the 7.1 channel over the 5.1 channel because the 7.1 channel is 24 bit. That should sound even better.

Is this correct?

I don't have either of those two cards. So, I cannot tell you for a fact which one sounds better. You can look at the specs and compare yourself.

I have Audigy2 ZS, which is a 7.1-channel card, and a 5.1-channel speaker set.

If I may be so bold, I'd like to recommend this card instead

It's OOS right now, but It's a bit cheaper and has more features

I've had it for about 6 months and love it. I have it hooked up to a receiver and HT speakers, but I've tried the analog outputs too and they sound good.

There's a really long thread on AVSfourm about it and other VIA envy based cards.

I had some bad experiences with Creative's budget line in the past and have decided to stay away from them now. They might have changed their ways though and I haven't been keeping up.
