Creative Labs owes Audigy/Extigy owners money

The settlement looks like you receive a 25% gift certificate off the purchase of another card. doesn't look like you get any cash out of the deal (unless you're the lawyers).

How misleading can you be? It's a fvcking coupon for 25% off another creative product up to $62.50 in value.

If my system came with an audigy 2 am I eligible ?

how would i get the serial off the unit ?

It's a pain in the ass to open up the system.

So sue me!

I'm just passing the info. Afterall, don't you want your 25% off your next Audigy 3.14159?

And I fixed up the topic title summary so you guys don't castrate me at the stake.

Actually, I'd like 25% off my next creative sound card even if I might not buy one, but the mere fact that I can get 25% if I do need to buy one makes me happy.

Sorry dude, the settlement only names original Audigy 1 and Extigy's.

Just as a qucik summary of the settlement:

Creative was taken to court in California on charges of false advertising over the fact that while the Audigy 1 class of hardware was advertised of being able to process 24bit/96Khz audio, when in reality all internal processing was done at 16/48 and then being upsampled for output. Creative decided to settle it out of court, and this is the result.

If you take up the settlement offer, you will recieve a 25% off coupon good at(and only at) Creative's online store that will get you 25% off of any of their products, as long as the discount doesn't exceed 62.50. If you don't take up their offer, you are still part of the class unless you exclude yourself entirely. By staying as part of the class, you are agreeing that you are satisified with Creative's resolution, and that you can not sue them in the future over the same issue.

The affected cards are Audigy 1 series only, so your card must be an Audigy or an Exitgy that isn't 2nd generation or later(i.e. Audigy 2 and up in all forms and the Audigy Value are not affected cards). You will need to provide your serial number to Creative to get your coupon.

PS The lawyers are getting up to half a million dollars; nice setup, isn't it?

They don't make it very clear, but considering that the OEMs were advertised all the same, I'd take a guess that they're part of the class. All you can do is submit a claim with one and see what happens.

Mmm... Audigy Pie!

I'm still waiting for some kind of CAL and settlement re: the sh!tty PCI-bus-annhilation capabilities of the SBLive. Seriously. I have two of those boards sitting here with no purpose other than to harvest S/N's off of in the event that someone starts a class for people whose system performance was adversely affected by those piece.

I'll never buy another Creative product. Period.

No way eh? Sounds good. I have an Audigy Gamer sitting around not being used. I pulled it out in favour of my onboard 'Soundstorm' audio...
