Creative labs cdrw 8438E problems

I recently got this cdrw with my new computer expecting it to work but it will only burn 74 minute cds, not 80 and i'm having recognizing any type of blank cd, i went to the creative labs site and they don't even have this model listed, i was wondering if anyone else was having troubles with this model and if they have any solutions thanks.
