I don't think it offers enough new stuff for me to upgrade from my Audigy Mp3+. I think it uses the same EAX Advanced HD as the Audigy 1. And, who builds 6.1 speaker systems for the PC??? The 5.1 from Klipsch already costs enough!

Audigy 2

"GTXP now supports 7.1 sound with a simple driver update"

I don't see the point in having that many channels on a PC sound card. I think 5.1 is still questionable at this point, and anything above it is pretty worthless.

agreed, although most of my hardware is getting outdated already

Isn't the Audigy 2 supposed to include support for Palladium?

Well, can anyone PLEASE confirm if the Audigy2 supports the Palladium initiative?

If it does, then I'm not going to touch it. If it doesn't, it will be my future new card...

"For real this time ?"

The original Audigy didn't have 24-bit/96kHz recording nor did it claim to.

I remember the exact same statements made when it was rumored that the original Audigy had MS DRM support. Whether or not it did, I don't know, but either way, it's quite clear it never came into play. I sure hope we don't see this as a reoccurring theme that whenever a new product is announced someone feels obligated to start a palladium rumor to turn the masses against it.

Ooops, sorry. My mistake. Creative claimed that Audigy is capable of 24bit/96Khz playback. And it wasn't. So you'll have to excuse me if I'm sceptical when they claim to have 24bit/96Khz recording.

The horrible frequency response is what is keeping me from purchasing the card. The noise floor is okay, but could use some work. Just like the fake bitdepth/sampling stats.

SDMI was too vague and the players too confused to rally behind it. Plus, I think, one of the protection measures was cracked even before it was introduced...?

"Trusted Computing" platforms will have the full backing of key players, from hardware designers to software engineers. They will keep trying until they "get it right".

Anyway, I'd also be interested to hear about Audigy 2's rights restriction features, if any.

It was capable of 96Khz output through the SPDIF, it was not capable of doing it through analog output.

From Creative's spec page:

24-bit Digital-to-Analog conversion during playback with sampling rates of 8, 11.025, 16, 22.05, 24, 32, 44.1, 48 and 96kHz in 5.1 mode and up to 192kHz in stereo mode
24-bit Analog to Digital conversion during recording in 8, 16 or 24-bit at sampling rates of 8, 11.025, 16, 22.05, 24, 32, 44.1, 48 and 96kHz
SPDIF (Sony/Philips Digital Interface) input at up to 24-bit/ 96kHz quality
SPDIF output up to 24-bit at 48 or 96kHz

With a 24bit DAC and ADC the card doesn't appear to be faking claims anymore. It has to be capable of 24bit/192kHz analog output in order to have true support for DVD-A as it claims.

Yawn. I really can't see any reason to get this over a normal Audigy unless you're in to hi-fi; high quality 16bit and 44khz seem to be the point where most people care, and those are of the few that want an external card over an integrated solution. Does anyone else see this just as a way for CL to increase the Average Selling Price(Newegg puts the Audigy 1 OEM at ~$60, half that of a retail Audigy 2)?
