Creative Labs 48x CD-Rom is acting up.

I'v had this thing since Christmas of last year. Since the first time I used it, it just didn't seem right. CD's take way to long to spin up.

Now the damn thing, for lack of better words "forgets" what it's doing. During installs it will just stop copying, when games need to detect the CD to play, it will take 5 minuits for it to find the CD, when playing audio CD's tracks just stop short in the middle of play.

This is really annoying the crap out of me. All the CD's work fine in other rigs, and I have tried the CD-Rom with other mobo's and even with an ISA EIDE controler card. Still craps out.

Has anyone esle had trouble with their CL 48x as well? Got any suggestions.

Thanks,

Trin

Creative cdroms are CRAP! I bought one, luckily it was broken when I got it, so I shipped it back, and wound up getting a Teac CD-RW instead. Granted, I paid $200 instead of $40, but it works great. If its still under warranty, ship it back. Many people have stated that they are junk! Even if you have to eat the cost, get yourself a different brand.

they are going to put you through hours of tech support and have you change everything in your system before they rma that for you

Unless there is a firmware update, I'd say this cd-rom is on its last legs for sure. RMa it our get a good brand Rom drive. Better yet, try a DVD drive.

Newer Creative drives are terrible. The older ones were very good because they were made by Panasonic. The newer ones are made by companies like BTC, Samsung, JVC, and Hitachi.

I have a 48x that never go beyond 8x!!!! i used all kind of benchs, many brand of cdr and original cds...same thing. When i extract music, my old cdr panasonic 4x/8x is faster than the 48x (7x...), can u believe that? i've tried to find firmware, drivers, anything...no luck 🙁
