This looks like a good deal to me. Best Buy has the Creative Inspire 2500 2.1 speakers with 30 watts RMS power for $30 after $20 rebate. The best part is free shipping if you buy it from the website. I may have to get one - can anybody speak on their quality?

i bought this two days ago for $20 after $20 MIR at local Fry's store. it's listed $49.99, but is actually on sale for $39.99. you can see a section of the Fry's ad here. it was advertised on 01/31/03 in S. SF Bay Area, sales are good thru 02/04/03.

bought it for someone and haven't heard it, so can't really give comments about it's sound quality. but if they're anything like the original cambridge 3-piece computer speakers system, then i'm sure it's very good.

audio quality isn't usually in the specs, but here it is from outpost.com:

 •
Best clarity in its price class with 75dB Signal to Noise Ratio

60 Watts System Power* (6 Watts RMS per speaker; 17 Watts RMS subwoofer)

Dynamic frequency response from 40Hz-20kHz for a clean range of lows, mids and highs

Built-in amplifiers tailored to optimize the sound of the speakers resulting in smooth natural sound, normally heard on high-end speakers

Creative IFP? (Image Focusing Plate) design using a curved front baffle and a contoured flare to improve speaker sonic accuracy without sacrificing tonal balance

Wired volume control for convenience
Speakers

 •
Rated Power @ 10%: 6 Watts RMS per speaker (x2 speakers)

Signal-to-Noise Ratio: 75 dB (typical)
Subwoofer

 •
Rated Power @ 10%: 17 Watts RMS

Signal-to-Noise Ratio: 75 dB (typical)

Overall Frequency Response: 40 Hz to 20kHz

Too bad that there are no Fry's stores in Connecticut - plenty of vacant buildings around my house to put it in, too.

they are not bad, the old FPS2000 series were better, but it has nice midrange. Bass is pretty lacking though, so if you like big thumpy bass, don't get these.
