Yes I know, this is overclockerz. But hey, *most* of the time, they deliver. Great price on the drives though. The iNFRA 52X has a nice little remote to set it apart from the other 52X CD drives, and the Encore comes with the DXR3 decoder

Encore DVD looks sweet with the DXR3 decoder bundled... Might be a nice match for that SB live 5.1 gamer / CS DTT2200 bundle I got earlier this week at compusa. <$50 off for the combo>

Not sure if I'll watch DVD's enough to justify the decoder board. The $59 10x DVD players <earlier this week at compusa> look pretty tempting & that $89 Pioneer 16x <search threads> look good too.

Kingz, keep 'em comming though... haven't made up my mind yet about which dvd player to buy.

On there site, all the other drives are label Retail and the Creative iNFRA 52x CD-ROM didn't have any notation on it. Probably comes in a white box.

Overclockerz has very poor ratings at ResellerRatings.com and BizRate.com. I wouldn't risk buying from it.

I had a Creative Labs 48x Infra CD-ROM Drive. It was LOUD! It was unbelieveable LOUD! It was so loud that I had to replace it with a Toshiba. I wouldn't recommend a Creative Labs drive to anyone.

I had the creative encore 5X w/the dxr2 decoder. Used it for about a year an a half. Loved it till the decoder card went bad. Worked great for viewing DVD's on my home theater system. Even has dolby 5.1 sound.

O.K. Wassup, Have you ever bought from dirtcheapdrives.com? Where should I buy the pioneer or toshiba from? Are either of these sold under different names? My concern is that I have only purchased online from Walmart, Amazon, Outpost, etc. I am still leary of purchasing from sites I am unfamillar with.

Just got the new Plextor 12x/10x/32x CD-RW and am looking for a DVD-ROM drive to read. Does anyone know what is the best drive to get now, one that reads all, including subchannel data, and maybe doesn't have the hardware region coding. How about the Pioneer or Aopen (Acer) slot loading DVD drives?

just got my Creative Encore 12X today ... no box, no decoder card ... just a BARE DRIVE with driver disk and EIDE cable ... no way I'm paying $109 for a bare drive!
I can even get a full retail version of this drive for the same price at any local retailer .... I'm going to e-mail them .... :(

Can anyone recommend me for a good and quiet cd-rom drive?

I'm thinking about Kenwood 72x, are there any other that work as good as this one?

TIA

stay away from the Kenwood 72x. I pulled mine after 3 months because it has such a hard time reading cdr's that I burned. Also, it would not work with Fireburner correctly.

go to zeobuzz.com and click on the dvd drive/decoder at bottom of page... it's $120 for the dxr3 decoder and 12x creative dvd at buy.com, oculd try using a coupon like 10 off 30 or something even to get it cheaper or adding a fluff item and then using 30 off 150 such as a dvd movie or 2 :).

got an e-mail reply from PCTOYZ today ...

stso,

That was an honest mistake by our site creator. The correct information has
already been posted. You can call the toll free number listed on our site
and request a refund.

Sorry for the inconvenience,

They seem to care about the mistake they made .... cool. I'll call them on Monday.
