Creative Headphone - can it be fixed?

I was recently testing a HDD on a computer. While doing this I severed the cable of my headphones. Can the Headphones be repaired?

Is there anyway to turn the microphone plug into a line in plug?

Can the cable be fully removed and can it be replaced by a LCD monitor speaker cable?

Any advice on what can be done?

I found a video on Youtube on how to fix them by painstakingly rewiring them.

Any other ways?

being desktop headphones the wires are probably much thicker so easier to work with..so not as bad.

Just do as OrooOroo says and make a good splice. Microphone and Line In may create an impedence mismatch. Line In is normally a pre-amplified audio signal. Not a good idea.
