Just got a Creative 3D Blaster Annihilator2 64MB Geforce2 GTS card, running on the following setup:

Win2k Server SP1 (Free)
192 MB RAM
Gigabyte GA-5AX Mobo Rev 1.3, Ali Aladdin V Chipset
AMD K6-III 450 Mhz, underclocked to 412 (trying to help stability)
DirectX 8.0a
SB Live Value (PCI)
Adaptec 2940 SCSI controller (PCI)
Some cheap-o PCI NIC card

(I WAS running a 3dfx Voodoo3 2000 AGP, which was working beautifully in this config.)

I pulled down the latest drivers both from Creative and nVidia (Detonator3) and have tried both sets of drivers. Win2K is able to install both sets of drivers, and in Device Manager, everything reads as OK (?This device is functioning properly?)?.. But with both drivers, I get the same result?.Win2K will only successfully start in straight VGA (640X480X16)?at any other setting, the system hangs as soon as the OS tries to kick in the SVGA resolution?Meaning, the Windows splash screen works, but as soon as it tries the spawn that first ?preparing network connections? box, it hangs. Sometimes the very first pixel (top left) on the monitor will light up, then it hangs.

Any ideas as to what?s going on? I made all the recommended BIOS changes, but didn?t have all the options they suggested available in my Award BIOS. I also read this morning about potential IRQ conflicts, but it doesn?t make sense to me that the IRQ could be the problem since the card works fine in VGA mode.

Has anyone with Win2k had this happen to them? Any suggestions would be very helpful. Thanks.

now that you've installed drivers, I would suggest you also re-install DX8a, sometimes that can help... IF you think it's IRQ problems, try pulling out all your other pci/isa cards, and reboot, if it still hangs, it's *probably* not an IRQ conflict.
