Hi
I am in the process of building a computer for a friend, and he wanted DVD and a decoder board. So I went to e8ay and got a 8x Samsung DVD drive and a Creative Labs DVD inlay decoder board for $49 as a package. I assumed that they would work together. So I plug it in and throw in a DVD, and it says it can't play because of a region error. This is obsurd as I am living in Michigan and I was playing a region one DVD (erasor - Shwazzenegger). So I try everything. I update my software, no soup. I own the same decoder board so I ripped it out of my system and put it in his. I don't have the problem in my computer, but the same problem persisted in my buddy's. So the only thing I thought could be the problem is the DVD drives. I have a 2X Creative DVD drive in my machine, so I hooked it up to my friend's machine, and what do you know, it worked!! Unfortunatly, I can't give the creative to my friend as I then won't be able to watch DVD's. Does anyone know of any way to overcome the region error while using the Samsung DVD drive?
Friend's System:
Duron 750 retail (Not overclocked)
MSI K7t Pro 2A
Maxtor 20 gig DiamondPlus 45
TNT2 Pro
128 Meg
3com modem
As a side note, I looked in the Windows registry, and found an item called DVD_Region, which was already set as "1".
Any help would be appreciated.
