I hate to say it, but this really isn't going to change anything; Creative has already been going nowhere fast in terms of new cards, and they have always been the best gaming sound card maker, so at worst this just means a new barrier to entry for the market.

Aureal was better than Creative...but too many people bought into the Creative hype.

Isn't that kinda like the ATi vs nVidia comments of 3yrs ago? Or like comparing Matrox to either ATi or nVidia now. I agree Aureal had potential and interesting ideas but I don't think they were better then Creative at the time.

Yeah, I distinctly remember the Creative vs Aureal wars back then. For awhile, I even owned a MX300 and SBLive. The general consensus back then was that Aureal was clearly superior for gaming when a 2.1 setup was used. When using a 4.1, the difference was not as great. The only problem was that the CPU overhead with the Aureal was HUGE compared to the SBLive. Not an issue for the faster PII based systems at the time, but if you were still using a P200/P233MMX (considered mid-range for the period), this was a definite area of concern.

Funny thing is, the SBLive was considered almost universally as the better card for music.

Well as a gamer and the owner of a 2.1 system and a P3 back then, I still stand by my statement. I owned a TB Montego II and a SBLive. To this day I think the TB the superior card even though it died and the SB didn't.
