Creative blows (how many times you can sell your sblive card with a different name?)

Hmmm..CL and AOL seem to have the same marketing strategy. I just received my shiny new AOL TITANIUM CD in the mail!

I actually like the fact that CL doesnt release a card every 6 months. Their cards have a long life, are very well supported by game developers, and regular driver updates.

WTF is up with some of you doods? You guys are advocating the fact that selling the same product every year with a different name at a higher price every year is a good thing?(P3?) Nvidia did the samething with the TnT2 and Geforce line, but no one says nothing about them. Aureal brought superior 3d sound to gaming and ppl cried about cpu usage and BS. Now for the past what 3 years or so? CL has been selling the same card with a different software bundle but yet the same cheese sound hardware build and some of you praise them for it?

the original sblive came out probably 2+ years ago. Funny how some people say they like how CL doesn't release an entirely new product every 6 months, well they've been too busy releasing the same product over & over again, sblive 1024, value, live mp3, x-gamer, platium, 5.1, maybe they can call their next one sb liveliest: a3d edition

the point is they dont obsolete their products every 6 months. The videocard business is absolutely rediculous

I think that the only thing that's ridiculous was Creative was allowed to purchase Aureal. Now we really don't have a choice but to put up with the ineveitable SB Live rehash. Atleast we have choices on which video cards and cpus we use.

I think it's a scam that CL could purchase Aureal. Sure, we'll sue the hell out of you and when you go broke, we'll buy you, realizing after all you are a good technology.

I love getting AOL discs. Wow, now with 700 hours!! Do you realize that you'd have to be CONSTANTLY online for 29 days to use all those hours? We're talking over 23 hours each day of the month to use up every hour. Sounds great :) They should bump it up to 1000 hours to use in a month using that logic.

Well on one hand i do appriciate that they don't outdate their product every 6 months like the gfx industry does.

But they are rehasing a card and trying to sell it as an all new card for $250.

Now if you could upgrade your SBLive! Platinum to a Platinum 5.1 for some small fee, then I wouldn't mind so much, but they expect platinum owners to rush out and buy a new one, like it's some great new card.

Now that they own Aureal, they should work A3D into a card...oh but wait...that would be doing something to help the consumers.

Has anyone actually tested the sound cards to see if they are the same? if so, i'd like a link for good reading.

regarding the AOL cds, I like when they come in the mail, some more frisbies/things to burn/melt/or throw at the wall and explode.:)

I have to admit first time I "upgraded" my SBlive value to a SBlive 1024. Wow was I stupid about CL (even NVIDIA isnt releasing the same! hardware with different names.
Well CL have no competition right now (bad thing)!

Those of you that are upset that gfx cards are released every six months i have a question...why do you give a sh!t? I mean, are you that unsecure that you MUST have the latest (maybe not greatest) piece of hardware that hits the shelf? Why do you care how often a company releases a product? Yes, i will admit, Nvidia is carrying things too far and starting to act like CL...releasing the same ole card with a very minor tweak and new name. Yes, that bugs me, but it's really no big deal. But you don't have to buy Nvidia products do you? There are others to choose from. The general populace of these forums is however more or less stuck with CL for a semi-decent sound card at an almost decent price. You can either buy CL, drop big $$$ for a real card or spend squat and get something below a CL card. Not very good options if you ask me. And now that they've officially eaten Aureal we're even more screwed. I did like who ever's quote above though about adding Aureal technology to CL cards for the Liveliest Card...:) good one. Anyway, just forgettaboutit. Don't sweat the small stuff eh, let them release crap after crap and someday, finally, a REAL improvement will come along.

Think again. The Turtle Beach Santa Cruz is one of the Live!'s very dangerous opponents. Now if they can make a version of this card that has optical or digital coax out (and not the dumb minijack thing), I might even consider buying one.

"But they are rehasing a card and trying to sell it as an all new card for $250."

The new Platinum is $200, just like the original Platinum, just like the original full Live. They are not raising prices like someone earlier said.

They are rehashing, but I don't think they are marketing the new platinum to current platinum owners. I think it is more the case of updating a product to reflect the current trends in an attempt to attract new customers that don't already own Live cards.
