Creative Blaster 52X Will only detect as PIO mode 4

On 5 different Mother boards This drive and another Creative 52x will only detect in the bios as Mode 4. Tried everthing from auto to manually setting and it always reverts to mode 4. It has been tried on ABIT VT6X4, BX133, KT7A,......Asus P3V4X, CUSL2-C. I have read that on some drives you have to set a jumper but the only jumpers on these are for Master, Slave, and Cable Select. Have tried other slower, older Cdroms and they all detect properly as UDMA2..........anybody???

try flashing the latest firmware

All the Creative 52x's I've ever worked with turned into pieces of crap after running them for a week or so, if you just bought it return it for something else.
