Creative Blaster 4224E CDRW problems...

Iv'e had the drive for more than a year and it worked good most of the time. But now, everytime I try and burn an audio cd, I get pops and crackles in the music for some reason. And it seems the more cd's I try, the louder that crackles and pops get. I have already used different software, different media, checked to see if drive was in DMA mode, burned at a lower speed and updated the firmware to no avail. I really don't want to have to go out and buy another drive since I'm saving every penny I got to buy a new guitar and amp.

Thanks

Try giving the drive a GOOD cleaning. And I don't mean with a cleaning CD. Take the drive apart and use Q-tips to clean the lense. Be gentle as the lense is not held in securely. It is a very easy operation so don't be afraid to do it. I had problems with that exact drive and cleaning it made it as good as new. I have also heard of a lot of other people who had the exact same problem. I think that drive was very poorly designed.
