creative audigy questions

i upgraded from a live value to an audigy firewire card.i find i have to connect my hifi to the headphone socket on the card to get a decent output from my hifi as against the line out socket on my old card, also i notice no difference in sound quality when using headphones for mp3 playback . should i ?

I also moved from Live to Audigy, and AFAIK the only significant difference is that the Audigy does hardware acceleration for games and such. It can also record 24-bit sound where the Live could do 16-bit, but that's not something you'd use much. Doesn't affect playback.
Can't say anything about the line-out; I use the digital-out for my speakers.

Yes, it's for 5.1 speakers. Digital works all right once you get it working. Seems like it took a bit of fiddling with Win98 settingswhen I first installed it, but WinXP worked fine from the moment the drivers were installed. I don't notice a difference in sound, but it's convenient to have just one cable running from the card to the speaker controller.

I'm running Creative Inspire 5.1's on an audigy, using both the line-out's and the digital out. Works fine, giving me half-decent 5.1 sound.
