Creative Audigy and Digital Output problem

Hello,
I recently updated my Sound Blaster Live Digital 1024 to the Audigy Gamer. My problem is that the Digital Output to my speakers produces the digital static and popping noises. No sounds are heard. Enabling "DIGITAL OUTPUT ONLY" under Volume Controls seems to cause the same popping sound to be heard by my speakers.

Strange thing is, Digital Output only, worked perfectly in my Sound Blaster Live!. I'm using the Harmon/Kardon HK-595 speaker sets that support Digital Output. Analog works perfectly, but I'm baffled as to why Digital Output cannot be heard.

I tried the following steps:

Adjusted the Sampling Rate from 96 to 48 to even 44.1. Problem still existed.

Turned monitor of and enabled the speakers to work in Digital Output mode. Static could still be heared.

Re-connected the wires, etc. The two left/right channels go into the left and right speaker ports. The Digital Ouput cable from my speaker goes into the Digital Out socket to the digital output ports.

Re-formatted my computer and did a clean install of Windows XP and creative drivers from CD. Then I installed the Windows XP drivers from your Web site.

Tried the Digital Out in my SB Live!, and it works perfectly. Seems to be isolated to the Audigy alone.

Could anyone please help me with this issue? I would highly appreciate it.

Cheers,
Kirupa 😎

Thanks masterhoss and yucky!
The problem still persists though. Yucky, do you think this problem might be a defect in the Audigy? I did connect the digital out from my card to the digital in of my speakers. My speakers, and digital out cable both connect into my subwoofer...which probably houses the digital converter.

Masterhoss, I read Anand's FAQ answer. But I have already tried setting the khZ settings to 44.1, 48, and 96 all without any success. Temporarily when I do mess around with the speaker settings in the Device Control and Speaker tabs of the Audio HQ, the popping noises stop....only to appear a few seconds. Strange thing is, the digital out worked with my SB Live!. I'm only hearing popping noises instead of any real sound with the Digital Out checked.

Any other idea? I even re-installed the drivers to fix the problem....doens't seem to work.

Thanks,
Kirupa

Seeing as there is a digital-in on the speaker system, there probably is a DAC.

Why don't you try to get it replaced, and then come back to us? A faulty digital-out isn't impossible.
