Well it depends really, I wanted to have optical input as well as mic input so i can record stuff, but other than that no reason to get the Platinum. Well unless you really really want the looks of it or the front fire wire port.

I bought my first Audigy in Platinum version because I was wowed by the front panels ports, but in three years time I only used them a handful of times......no surprise that my new rig is using a standard Audigy 2 ZS. Platinum may be worth it for certain users who need front panel connectivity but for me it would be another waste of money.

Not going there again....Damn! back then that Audigy Platinum set me back over $350!!!

Platinum also has the infrared remote control, don't forget. I like the front-panel, allows me to quickly and easily go between my speakers & headphones.

the only difference is in features. If you just listen to MP3s, watch movies and such, and play games, then shelling out the extra cash is pretty pointless. For die hard audiophiles, the Platinum might be the way to go, but it's not like it's gonna sound any better.

okay so Audigy 2 platinum is $99 After rebate at Circuit city this week. That's a great deal, but it depends if you wanna shell out a $100 extra bucks while you wait for your rebate check to come in 2 months. If you can handle that, then that's your best bet.

I got the audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro (the one with the input box outside the pc) myself instead of the non pro because my pc chasis sits close to me and sometimes pluging stuff in the front gets tangled or I bump it with my legs. I like my current setup it keeps the wires more out of the way for me. So, now I am hooked on that setup and wouldnt go back to the face plate. If your chasis sits on your desk or is sufficiently out of the way then there is no reason to get the pro version. For me it is a matter of space and convenience.

Oh and the audigy 4 / 4 SLI stuff is why the audigy 2's are selling really cheap this christmas season. I will probably wait till next year.
