Creative 12XDVD ejects cd-roms

I have just fitted a Creative labs 12X DVD player(1241e). It plays DVD films and reads DVD-ROMs but when you put in a Cd-ROM it trys to read it then spits it out after a few seconds. This only happens with about 50% of my disks. Has anyone else had problems with this drive.I would be interested to hear of any similar problems to this so that I can either fix it or take it back to the shop.
